I’m sure you’ve heard by now, but the state of Georgia has set an execution date for Troy Davis. Davis was convicted of murdering a police officer in 1989, but since then the case against him as fallen apart. All but two non-police witnesses have recanted their testimony, and nine people have signed affidavits implicating someone else.
Amnesty International has been on the front lines of this case for a long time and has created a series of videos that explain Davis’ case and details what went so very wrong. Those videos are embedded below.
Troy Davis’ execution date has been set for Sept. 21, 2011, but it’s important to note that there is one more line of defense. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles could grant clemency. You can sign a petition here. Also, watch these videos and spread them widely. If you’re not outraged at the end of it, I don’t think you paid any attention. Time is of the essence. Hopefully we can save an innocent person.
