It’s been a great week for destroying my morale and making me want to punch rich people in the face, and the Weekly WTF reflects that.
If you’ve been on the fence trying to decide if traders were assholes, an interview on the BBC this week should tip in the asshole direction. International trader Alesio Rastani, in discussing the Eurozone bailout, said that he “dream[s] of another recession.” Because people need to be prepared to make big bucks in a bear market, evidently.
I’m really not upset that Mr. Rastani said what he did out lout. I’m glad, because now there can be no doubt as to the motivations of people who ruined the economy. He has erased any doubt. He clearly feels bold enough to think that he can get away with such callous disdain for anyone who doesn’t “prepare” adequately. But it’s hard to make money from money when you have none to being with. I can’t get a job because of this economy, and I’m not alone. For most of us, he is not on our side.
In the meantime, Think Progress points out that Wall Street bankers are some of the biggest GOP donors and are convincing GOP presidential candidates to repeal the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. *headdesk*
Where is Eugene Debs when you need him?
