Sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while. Thanksgiving, life…you know how it is. And this week I have been working to promote the 2011 Amnesty International Write-a-thon. People all over the world will be writing letters from Dec. 3-Dec. 11 on behalf of prisoners of conscience around the world. Fifteen POCs. Fifteen chances to save someone’s life. Topics include women’s rights, LGBT rights, housing, justice, and much more. Whatever your passion, there is a case for you.

You can click here to find an event in your area. If you’re in the Northeast Kansas area, though, there are a couple of events. The Amnesty group in Topeka is hosting a Write-a-thon event at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Also, the Kansas City Amnesty group are hosting two events, one on Dec. 7, 2011 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Johnson County Central Resource Library and one on Dec. 10, 2011 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm at the Johnson County Library-Antioch.

If you’re not in Kansas, there are hundreds of Write-a-thon events going on around the country. But if there aren’t any near you, you still write letters on your own. It takes 5 minutes, and it can mean the world to someone thousands of miles away.
